The Sony BDP-S360 looks tempting

I mentioned some time ago, that I was still deciding whether to make the jump to Blu-ray and that a few players were seriously tempting. Well, I’ve become even more tempted recently…

There are a few Blu-ray players around that have finally seemed to gone below the magic £100 barrier, and some of these, like the Sony BDP-S360 are highly rated players too.

As close as I have come to making the jump though, the slight factor of connectivity has held me back. The big deal with Blu-ray and the latest BD-Live Profile is that you are able to view online content available on the Blu-ray discs. This didn’t really strike me until recently when I thought about the connections, as is that in most peoples houses, the Blu-ray player is not going to be right next to the router. So you’ve got to trail a bloomin’ ugly ethernet cable from the router to the player which in some folks ‘minimalist’ houses it going to look pretty awful. The latest and, in my opinion, greatest players all have WiFi built into them and so are much more practical. The problem I have is that the Sony BDP-S560 which is the WiFi enabled version of the 360 is nearly £100 more – this is a lot extra to pay for simple wireless capability and a few software changes. At the moment, the price of the Sony BDP-S360 looks tempting enough to do without the wireless functionality, and therefore the BD-Live content. Maybe this is the way to go – buy cheap now and wait to get a 3D Blu-ray player later in the year…!
